09/08/06 - 15/08/06 - FINAL STOP: VEGAS BABY!

This text will be replaced

We arrived in Las Vegas early evening and checked into our room on the 27th floor of the Luxor Hotel. We didn't bother going to see the lights or anything because we were still far too knackered from walking in and out of the Grand Canyon.

The main difference between now and the last time I was here is I could legally buy drink and gamble. I didn't bother gambling though, because, for a start, I didn't have any money, but also I can't play cards for shit. If I was going to do it, I'd may as well just hand my money straight over to the casino, and save everyone the time and trouble.

The first day I spent chilling in the spa and pool and walking around some of the hotels. That evening we ate at the all you can eat buffet in our hotel. This featured cuisines from all around the world, and it was absolutely delicious. It made the all mighty Pizza Hut buffet seem like a snack for peasants.

Afterwards we walked down the strip to see the lights. This is when Vegas really comes to life and it's damn impressive. I particularly enjoyed the water fountains in sync with the music outside the Belagio.

My good friend Steve recommended going to see the lights on Freemont St because they're really good. I was about to suggest the idea to my mum when she said "one night we'll go to see the lights on Freemont St, they're meant to be really good." And she wasn't wrong, they were excellent. Above you, there's a giant LCD screen the goes allllll the way down the street. Every hour they have a lights display on it and it was incredible.

On the Friday night I thought it would be appropriate to have the last meal of my holiday in the same place I had my first meal - the Hard Rock Café. Well, actually, it wasn't my last meal. Mum flew home on Saturday, but I had another night in Vegas. I went to the cinema to see Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, which was scrumtrulescent; and then spent my last night chilling in my hotel room, watching TV and drinking the 8 bottles of beer we had left over, which was fantastic.

Well, that also wasn't really the last night because the next day I flew to LA and spent the night in the Motel 6. Actually, that wasn't even the last night, because the next day I flew from LA to New York and then had an overnight flight to London. I had 3 hours at JKF airport in New York, so I went to the bar and had one last drink (well 3). I chatted to a group of (mostly middle aged) women, none of us knew each other, we had all just come for a drink at the bar, but we had a good laugh none the less.

And that was it, the next day I was home and my journey was over. People asked me was it depressing being home, and I said no. It was great seeing my friends and family again, having my own room, and my electric guitar!

In fact, the come down from the holiday only kicked in on Saturday night. I went out with all my mates from Bournemouth (it was so great seeing them again), and then we went to Walkabout (or as it should be called: Chavs N Slappers R Us). It was packed full of the same old drunken wankers, dancing around like knobheads to Chesney Fucking Hawkes. It hadn't changed one bit and by GOD it was depressing! At least it made me appreciate my journey just that little bit extra. I vowed that over the next few months, as I start my post grad course and try to clear my debt, I'm not going to waste any of my money on shitty nights out like this, and just spend it on worthwhile things. So hopefully, I'll be able to save up and go traveling again.
