MISSION BEACH & MAGNETIC ISLAND

Monday morning we got on the Oz Experience bus. It wasn't as big as I thought it would be. We were heading to Mission Beach but made a few stops along the way. The first was at the Curtain Tree in the rainforest just outside Cairns, which I saw when I was 6, so it was kind of cool seeing it again. The second was a crater lake which I went for a swim in. I swam half way across and back; the water was really fresh and a decent temperature, plus it's probably the only place in Oz you can swim without fear or being eaten by a crocodile or shark or stung by a jellyfish.
The last stop was a waterfall used recently in a UK shampoo advert. I swam there too, including swimming through the waterfall. On the bus we did a battle of the sexes quiz, where the girls had to write 20 'girly' questions for the guys to answer and vice versa. So the girls questions were all about tampons and make up whilst the guys were all about cars, sports and Ninja Turtles.

That evening at the youth hostel in Mission Beach the fun began. We all played drinking games and Charlie got absolutely wasted! Haywood was pretty battered too. Anyway, they started having a full blown argument, with insults going back and forth; then they started throwing empty cans at each other. Everyone was laughing, but kind of nervously, but I was savouring every moment. It was hilarious.
The bus driver threw Charlie in the pool, then Charlie brought up the fact that Haywood had the hairiest ass in the world, which he then proceeded to show everyone. The hostel owner said to Haywood he'd give him $60 off his sky dive if he'd have his ass waxed right there and then. Haywood agreed. He lay face down on the table and out of nowhere all the girls produced waxing kits and started attacking him. For the amount of waxing they did, they didn't get much hair off, but Haywood was screaming with pain. Someone through some BBQ sauce on to make it looks as if he was bleeding.
I have photos but I'm not going to post them because they are truely disgusting. If anyone wants copies (for black mailing purposes) then e-mail me. The antics continued on in to the night, including Haywood pouring baked beans over Charlie's head. Haywood never got his $60 off the next day, so he just ended up with a sore ass and a hangover. For everything else there's MasterCard!
Since there's nothing (cheap) to do in Mission Beach, the next 2 days were spent in the swimming pool with John and Hannah, 2 friends I'd made. We played volleyball and water gladiators ALL day long. Water gladiators consists of walking along a log across the pool, trying to knock each other off with floats.

The first evening we drank at the bar and ate some (delicious) kangaroo. The next evening we drank at the bar for a bit, then went back to the hostel to find it deserted. There was about 6 of us and we sat around a bench, drank some beer and I put my Ipod speakers on for music. Before you knew it, everyone came out of their rooms and joined us - we had a little party going on and more drinking games commenced.
Thursday we headed to Magnetic Island off the coast of Townsville. Our youth hostel was right on the beach. You couldn't go swimming because its jellyfish season, but we went sea kayaking, which wasn't actually that fun.

That night everyone was tired and just played cards. I couldn't be bothered so I went for a walk along the beach. This turned out to be a great idea because I got away from the noise of the youth hostel and lay down and relaxed. I listened to The Beach soundtrack & score on my Ipod and watched the moon rise and saw 2 shooting stars! It was amazing. I put my camera in the sand and used the timer to take a photo of me sitting there.

Next morning we did a walk on the island to try and spot some Koalas. We didn't see any on the walk but the bus driver spotted one on the way back to the hostel, which I took a photo of. That afternoon we got back on the Oz Experience bus and headed to Airlie Beach where we'll sail the Whitsundays...
