Live At Budokan (2003)
Review by Karl Watson

This is a great concert and the Japanese audiences certainly are unique with how they react to the songs.

I was a huge fan of the trio, but my main problem with the set lists from ’00 – ’02, is with “Summer Of ’69” near the start of the show, and no “Kids Wanna Rock” in the encores, the show lacks a real climax. It’s left to “Run To You” to act as the climax, and although it’s one of BA’s best, it’s actually one of the songs that lost a lot of its energy with the three piece format.

Visually this DVD is pretty dull, especially when you compare it to the Slane or Lisbon DVDs. I don’t care much for the split screen technique, maybe the editor had been watching too much of 24 when he put this together.

Overall I’m glad to have this show on DVD, but of all the BA shows to have a pro-recording of, this wouldn’t have been near the top of my list.

As for the extras, there are just 4 bonus tracks that should have been in the main concert. Oh, and interactive menus. Great.

Key Tracks:
It's Only Love
Remember
