Anthology (2005)
Review by Steven Stanley |

I'm not generally a fan of best-of's. I find them
lazy and basically let's be honest... they are released on the build-up
to Christmas as stocking fillers so the record companies can bleed
us dry of our hard earned cash or/and to keep the artist on the
map. This is no exception.
Saying that it's really hard to ignore the vast
amount of brilliant songs on this package. Practically every single
is on here, and for a regular member of the public wanting a taste
of Bryan Adams through the ages - this is it. Unfortunately 'Kids
Wanna Rock' isn't on here as it was never a single... IT SHOULD
BE!
Tracks like 'Remember' and 'Lonely Nights' were
remastered for the release and sound better than ever. 'So Far So
Good' (resurrected from his first 'best of' of the same name) is
a nice addition as it was previously unheard and is a fun song.
It's easy to see why it was left off 'So Far So Good'... it doesn't
have that classic quality but it's still nice to have.
'I'm Not The Man You Think I Am' is the other new
addition on here... really why this was put on the album I've no
idea. It's a solemn affair and feels completely irrelevant to the
rest of the material on there. It's certainly not tack, but it doesn't
belong on here and feels just like a cheap shot by the record company
to entice you into putting it into your Christmas stocking.
Thankfully the world that exists outside of America
was spared the 'When You're Gone' duet with Pamela Anderson... America
you took one for the team and we will be forever grateful.
As much as I detest 'best of's' the body of work
on here is outstanding and more than justifies 4 stars. If you have
no Bryan Adams albums or want an incite into more of his work including
a couple of live songs - get this.
