Live In Lisbon (2005)
Review by Steven Stanley

Finally, a DVD release of a 5-piece show. Although it's essentially a good performance, the setlist is shocking and features little new material to get you excited than previous releases other than 'Room Service' and 'Open Road' which admittedly were both good live. Like with ' Live At The Budokan' where we JUST missed out on a full performance of 'How Do Ya Feel Tonight', 'C'mon C'mon C'mon' in the setlist by a matter of weeks, and some other great songs that would have made it a DVD of note... the same can be said here. Just 4 months after this was filmed BA had included tracks like 'One Night Love Affair', 'I Was Only Dreamin', 'Nowhere Fast', 'There Will Never Be Another Tonight', 'The Way You Make Me Feel', 'Blessing In Disguise' into the setlist. Songs like that are needed here as Lisbon just concentrates on the same old greatest hits fair that the previous releases had.

A little later Bryan had brought back Gretsch guitars and the b-stage... something that would have taken 'Lisbon' to the next level to the ultimate DVD. Tracks like 'There Will Never Be Another Tonight' should have been on here to mix things up and give the disc extra appeal than the standard setlist we are treated too. 'Lonely Nights' was infact performed (and can be seen briefly in the DVD menus), but true to form it wasn't included on the disc.

The gig was filmed on super 8mm and 16mm film which gives a lot of the footage a grainy feel that isn't to everyones taste. After too long it just gets on your nerves and becomes annoying to watch which probably takes it down a star for me. The hidden 'WYG' extra is kinda funny, which shows 'When You're Gone' girls making fools of themselves but the rest of the extras aren't anything to write home about. A series of boring music videos and an interview that has no appeal feel you wanting more.

It's great to have this DVD because it will always remind me of the shows I went to on this tour... but for me it just comes up short too often to give it anything more than 3 stars.

Key Tracks:
Kids Wanna Rock
The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You
