Waking Up The World (2003)
Review by Steven Stanley |

A fanclub DVD release originally put together in
2003 but made available in 2008. It features superb footage, onstage
and behind the scenes of Bryan's hugely successful 'Waking Up The
World Tour'. The live songs are largely very good, but the way they
have been edited and spliced together leaves a lot to be desired.
'When The Night Comes' for instance misses the build-up of the same
version on the 'SFSG' video, and to tell you the truth... the best
of these live songs are on the 'SFSG' video and they are presented
a lot better.
The version of '69 is different though, and I maybe
prefer it... it combines the best of the Canadian footage with the
best of the UK footage to make a great video. The version of 'Run
To You' is the same as the 'SFSG' video filmed
in Ipswich & Wembley, it's great... but we've seen it all before.
Likewise, with 'C'mon Everybody' filmed in Cardiff, Wales.
This DVD is branded as 'Canada 92' when that just
isn't the case, also the artwork has typos and uses a the same template
design as 'Slane' and 'Budokan'... little effort has been put into
making this what it should have been. To be honest the footage on
here is SO good, it could have been released in a brown paper bag
and I'd have still watched it. With all the footage available of
the 'Waking' tour though, a lot more should have been done with
this release. Maybe a full show? Certainly more songs and ones we
haven't seen before.
Likewise the documentary footage is absolutely brilliant,
but there's different versions of the doc and more of it... all
of which should be on here. It's a great watch though for anybody
thats not seen it before, but most fans have had this years anyway.
Overall you just can't argue with the footage thats
on here... it's a DVD of Bryan in his absolute prime. I can't give
it anything more than 3 stars though because the production of the
disc is extremely lacklustre, the quality of the image is sub-standard
VHS and it could and should have been so much more.
