10/07/88 - TOWN SQUARE, LOCARNO BA
- "An outdoor gig in Locarno, near the Swiss-Italian border. One thing that's
nice about Europe is that you sometimes get to play in town squares. The people
come out, sit on their balconies, have a drink and watch you. During
the middle of the show I could see my manager, Bruce, and my agent, Carl, talking
to the promotor through an arched window off to one side of the stage. I didn't
think much of it. After a while, I looked over to their window again and I saw
Carl leap across the desk, grab the promotor by his jacket and start to yell at
him. I saw Bruce stand up and start yelling, too. I pointed it out to my guitarist,
Keith, and we both started laughing. We could see coats coming off and fists starting
to fly. There was obviously a lot of abuse being hurled around, with flapping
arms and banging fists. We just kept playing, while trying to keep our eyes on
the action. Later, I found out the promotor had tried
to make off with the money from the gig. He had told Carl and Bruce that the money
had disappeared and he didn't know where it was. It turned out to be underneath
his desk, hidden in a briefcase." Setlist: Only
