28/07/92 - INONU STADIUM,
ISTANBUL Bryan
Adams Unlocks The Door To Istanbul (A&M Press Update): Tuesday July
28 1992 marked the first outdoor stadium show in Istanbul history. Over 20,000
fans rocked for over 2 hours with Canadian superstar Bryan Adams. Although
other artists have played Istanbul before, never had there been a concert in an
outdoor venue. The concert was delayed for over half an hour as concert-goers
filed into Unonu Stadium. Thousands more watched from nearby hotel and apartment
wondows or sat on a hill overlooking the stadium and were acknowledged from the
stage by Adams.
The
respone was exuberant, to say the least. And Adams commented after the show how
surprised he was at the audience familiarity with the material. The stadium was
ablaze with sparklers and the audience brought the star back for three encores.
Before the show, Adams was prestented with gold awards
from Turkey for sales in excess of 50,000 copies for the album "Waking Up
The Neighbours". Also on hand was famed director
Anton Corbijn, who is using the city of Istanbul and Iceland as backdrop for the
next Adams video for the new single "Do I Have To Say The Words?". In
the first week at radio in the United States, "Do I Have To Say The Words?"
was added to over 140 stations and all indicators point to it being a huge success
and possibly rivaling the mega-hit "(Everything I Do) I Do It For You".
The European leg of the Adams tour conludes August
2nd with an outdoor date in Thurles, Ireland. Bryan Adams begins a record breaking
Canadian tour August 14 in Newfoundland. |
