17/07/94 - GATESHEAD INTERNATIONAL STADIUM Review
by Mary Askew (Gateshead Evening Chronicle): Rockin' with Bryan! Rock
star Bryan Adams set summer temperatures soaring at Gateshead International Stadium
with a concert his fans will remember for years. The
Canadian singer returned to Tyneside for the second time as part of a world tour
which has already lasted more than two years.
But
denim-clad Adams showed no signs of fatigue as he delighted a 38,000-strong crowd
with a string of his classic hits, including 'All I Want Is You', 'Please Forgive
Me' and 'Can't Stop This Thing We Started'. He gave
a running commentary on the football score for those who had dragged themselves
away from the World Cup Final. And as Brazil stormed
to victory, the singer scored a winner with the record-breaking ballad '(Everything
I Do) I Do It For You'.
Among
the crowd were fans who had travelled hundreds of miles to see their Idol. They
basked in the sun as the chart-topping band 'Gun' and 'Chrissie Hynde & The
Pretenders' set toes tapping. But Adams turned up
the heat as he took the stage and rocked his way into the heart of everyone in
the packed arena.
Ten
of thousands of people who did not want to bop to Bryan were bombarded with his
music anyway. The rocker's thrashing guitar was heard as far away as Byker and
Jesmond. Gateshead Council received 50 complaints
about the noise. A spokeswoman said: "It was a very still night and there
was no low cloud to restrict the noise. Because of these conditions the concert
could be heard quite a way away." (Below) The
stadium quickly fills during the day ready for the show
