23/07/99 - CARDIFF CASTLE

Review by South Wales Echo:
"Castle Rocks As King Bryan Rolls"

Rock legend Bryan Adams shook Cardiff Castle to it's foundations. In fact it is remarkable the bricks and mortar held firm.

Bryan had said before the sell-out show that he was "itching" to play to his Cardiff fans because he was so impressed with them when he played the CIA two years ago. And his fans were certainly eager to see him, especially after an hour's wait after the support. The result was electric.

Ten thousand bodies would not stop moving through the whole show, even right at the back the atmosphere never dwindled - from leaping to rock classics 18 Til I Die, Summer Of 69 and Run To You, to plenty of arm swaying to favourite love songs Everything I Do and Heaven. An amazing stage, featuring neon backdrops and floor to roof panels of fairy lights, was impressive as darkness fell.

And Bryan, wearing white, made the most of it, saying he loved the Castle backdrop. He chatted to the crowd thoughout the show, keeping them laughing as he remarked on the saucy nature of his Welsh fans' banners. He offered one girl a backstage pass after reading her sign "BA give us your DNA" (Dynamic Naked Arse for those who want to know!-Lisa) - others were unmentionable.

At one point he even pulled his agent onto the stage for a bit of a banter. Sporty spice Mel C didn't show up for her part in When You're Gone and it wasn't the same, but the crowd filled in the backing vocals for her anyway. In fact, they filled in most of the vocals all night. Fans Janet and Peter Stonjanovic, both 47, of Pontypridd, said the show was "brilliant". Peter said "He's got plenty of good songs. Everybody was bouncing around".

Bryan will play Cardiff International Arena on October 15th. Tickets are £22.50, subject to booking fee, and are on sale from Monday (24th July) at the box office on 01222 224488 and from Ticketline on 01222 230130.
