08/04/01 - HALLE MUNSTERLAND, MUNSTER

Review by Maria Heutz:
When I was at Bryan’s concert in Xanten I heard from other fans that Mickey told them in Hamburg the guys will be back touring Germany very soon in November. I was very glad about this wonderful news. But then the first dates which were confirmed were private shows in Frankfurt where Bryan should sing at an assembly of a German travel company. There was no possibility to get a ticket for it. These shows were not allowed for „normal“ people. Then two further dates were confirmed in Aschaffenburg and Bamberg. Both towns are far away from where I live and this means at least one way around 3 hours in my car.
So I decided to wait and buy the ticket after my holidays in Cyprus.
When I came back after a wonderful relaxing week I noticed that there were more dates in December, one next to my hometown in Düsseldorf. Düsseldorf is just a distance of 30 kilometres. That’s great! But then I remembered that at the same evening I will have a meeting with some of my husband’s colleges and their wives which was planned a long time ago. I thought about travel to Bryan’s concert in Münster on December 12th. This was also a date where we had an invitation but I preferred it to watch and listen to Bryan again. So I hoped for a ticket to my birthday and gladly I’ve got it.
At the end of November my pen friend Günter phoned me and said Bryan’s concert in Münster was rescheduled for December 4th. Fortunately I had no other dates that evening.
On December 4th I started in the early afternoon but what a pity after just 12 kilometres on the motorway I drove direct in a traffic jam. It was stop and go and I feared being to late to get a good place just in front of Bryan’s microphone. Normally the distance to Münster needs an 1 ½ hours drive by car but I needed almost 2 ½ hours. What a surprise when I reached the entrance of the hall where the concert took place. There were just 7 (in letters seven) !!! people waiting in front of the door. They told there is another door where also fans were waiting but I decided to wait there.
After a long boring time like always (we waited hardly an hour) the doors were opened. This one on the other site a bit earlier than the one I was waiting in front of. At least it didn’t matter because I’ve got my place in the second row just nest to Bryan’s microphone.
At 8 p.m. the supporting act came on. It was a German boy group called „ECHT“. I know their music but they don’t play that music I prefer. They were not too bad but too loud. They played about 30 minutes and then it was time for Bryan.
He began with Back to you, followed by House arrest, 18 til I die... Bryan really started to rock us. His voice was okay. In Bamberg on November 15th he was forced to cut his show a little short due to a weird lurgie that has been floating around the tour. He welcomed us in German with „Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is Bryan and this big potato is Keith Scott and on the drums Mr. Mickey Curry.“ He didn’t speak a lot German this evening but he promised us to speak slowly English for our better understanding. For the song Please forgive me Keith had to start three times before Bryan was contended and began to sing. (Everything I do) I do it for you was announced as a ten years old hit. When you’re gone was a duet with Martina from Münster. When she arrived on stage she run to Bryan and she embraced him very tempestuous. Nobody believed at that moment that she came to sing. She was asked what she is doing. She answered with a question: „Tonight?“ Bryan would like to hear about her profession and was a bit confused by this answer. He promised to keep her company. Then he asked again about her profession. She answered she’s working in an office. Bryan would like to know in which kind of office. She said she didn’t know it in English and Bryan beg her to say it in German that we could translate it. But nobody knew what „Sanitätshaus“ in English was. (Sanitätshaus = medical shop) So she began to explain: „It’s a house where people can come in ...“ Bryan cut her short and meant: „You are a nurse“. She said: „No.“ Lance brought the lyrics and they began to sing. She knew the song by heart and after a short moment Bryan tore away the piece of paper. After the song Bryan asked her with whom she was at the concert. When she answered „with my boyfriend“ Bryan would like to know whether he has strong muscles. She has got the usual T-shirts and left the stage.
To I’m ready Bryan was wondering about how successful some songs are over the years. He was 18 when he wrote this song.
He honoured George Harrison who died of cancer on November 30th because of his great influence he and the Beatles had to Bryan’s music. He reminded the Prince Trust Concert years ago. After the words „George we love you“ he started to sing My sweet lord. I love it so much when he covers other songs. No matter what he sings it always sounded wonderful. I also love his „o sole mio“ the imitated woman’s voice when he sings the word „need“ in Heaven or my live favourite the Blues jam where he sings a part with a woman’s voice. During this song he knocked on his back although it always seemed there is nothing in this trousers. He is so thin!
After 1 ½ hours he would end but we screamed for an encore. Soon he was back and we listened to 5 further songs. Before he played The best of me he let a little girl on stage. She watched his concert maybe from the seventh row but because of her height she couldn’t see well. Roughly she was 7 or 8 years old. When she arrived on stage she was hardly able to go. Her feet hurt. She couldn’t speak English and Bryan took her to the side on a kind of a bench. There she sat and blew kisses to the audience and the band. Really lovely! At the end Bryan managed it that she’s got Mickey’s drumstick, the water bottle and his towel.
The rear light was The way you make me feel and I must say this time I found it much better than in Xanten. With this song he let the audience feel that we are the ones who give him a really good feeling.
Before he finally left the stage he spoiled us with a lovely gesture. He walked along the stage from the right to the left side and he clapped everybody’s hold out hands.
I drove home in a very good mood. I was so content with this new Bryan experience. The only thing I regretted were the music cassettes I forgot at home. So I couldn’t listen to Bryan on my way back home. Fortunately they played in the radio „Summer of ‘69“.
