09/02/02 - SCANDINNAVIUM, GOTHENBURG

A few days after I got the tickets for the Stockholm show I thought to myself 'Wouldn't it be cool to go to Gothenburg as well?' and of course the reply I gave myself was 'Yeah. Sure' Spoke with my father and eventually he agreed to come along with me. This was our third gig together (we saw the Rolling Stones in 95 and BA in 96). Anyway the concert tickets were booked, payed, the hotelroom stay was arranged and the train tickets fixed so we had a saturday to look forward to.

I woke up saturday morning still on such a high note from the previous gig day. Had a nice breakfast with the old man and then we made the 15 min walk down to the trainstation. Trip down to Gothenburg would take about 3 hours or so. I remember it being good apart from the fact that I had caught a terrible cold and was sneezing about a dozen times a minute. Oh well, I least I kept myself busy doing that. On the train I also had the time to read through some of the reviews in the newspapers about BA's show in Stockholm.

About 4 pm we arrived in Gothenburg (we was actually 30 mins late but that didn't matter to us really) and we quickly found our way to the hotel. It was a real nice looking hotel which was recommended by a friend of the family. Neat. We had a walk through town with heavy rain as our guide. We quickly got bored though and decided to go for an early dinner. After dinner we headed down to the venue Scandinavium. It was 30 mins until the gates would open and we decided to sit down and wait at the McDonalds next door.

The gates opened and I smiled when I saw people running like mad to get frontrow. We soon got it in and after some confusion we found our seats in section C. This was my first time at Scandinavium (by the way a large indoor hockey arena which seats about 12,000 for a concert) and my dad told me he'd been here in the early 70's watching an opera. Really useless piece of information but anyway.

The opening act Pushjkins soon got on and still didn't sound good in my opinion. My dad went for a beer halfway through their opening song. I should have joined him really.

It's 8.30 pm when BA, Keith and Mickey take to the stage opening with 'Back To You'. No acoustic guitar as BA brings the bass back for this song. Good choice as this version gets the crowd goin alot more.Surprisingly '18 Til I Die' follows the opening number which made me thinking that they might change the setlist around. 'House Arrest' is third and after singing the opening line 'Well there's gonna be a party, gonna make some noise' the band stops and the crowd (especially the girls in the first few rows) scream on the top of their lungs. Never seen him do the song that way before. Cool.

Rest of the gig is really really good of course. A more enthusiastic audience than in Stockholm. 'Thought I'd Died And Gone To Heaven' sounds much better than the night before. No 'Straight From The Heart' though which was a real shame.

BA was struggling a bit with his voice throughout the second part of the show but managed to do OK anyway. A nice version of 'The Way You Make Me Feel' closed the show and we went outside. Once again a really great night! Two of the best days of my life. Thank you BA, Keith and Mickey. Can't wait to do it all again.
