10/10/02 - CANCER BENEFIT CONCERT, GM PLACE, VANCOUVER

Review by Andreas Kristensen:
My overseas trip to the beautiful west coast city and BA's hometown was all worth it... The fanclub (and Michelle Larsen) the Warehouse studio (I wasn't inside the studio!), seeing fx Lance's house (BA's guitar-tech) and above all Bryan's old West Vancouver house!! Cool!! But as of January 2003, he sold it - confirmed by Michelle from BADNEWS too... The AMAZING, FANTASTIC, MOVING, ROCKING, UNIQUE, ONCE-in a LIFETIME concert:

BC Cancer Foundation Concert - feat. Bryan Adams, Sarah McLachlan, Chantal Kreviazuk, Jann Arden and the Barenaked Ladies!
Crowd: 19.000 people (total sell-out!!!)
Host: Terry David Mulligan (Canadas "Much Music" legend!)
Dedicated to: Michelle!!
All proceeds went to Cancer Research!
A fantastic, spectacular and moving event. A night to remember forever in everyone's heart's and mind's!!

All the musicans joined each other for their different songs, and in between breaks, the big screens showed the plans for the new research center in Vancouver for Cancer, and the story of Michelle and Shane! A wonderful memorial event and benefit cause all in the spirit of Michelle!! Terry David Mulligan was perfect, telling each artist's story of how Cancer had effected their lives, and just all the background information on this good event - announced and true as: THE BIGGEST BENEFIT EVENT in ALL OF BRITISH COLUMBIA!!

At around 11pm, all the artists had played their breathtaking sets, but yet to come was Vancouver's very own - BRYAN ADAMS! The lights came down... I saw Lance and Toe gettin' of the stage and suddenly we all screamed... BA and the band, including the new keyboard player (Gary Breit) came on with big smiles on their faces!!

Adams kicked off with a sooo loud and stomping version of "Here I Am"... Then he went straight into "Can't Stop This Thing We Started", of which everybody danced to... The opening riff of "Summer Of '69" was just like "This is BA in his old hometown for sure"... 19.000 fans jumping up and down! I'll tell ya, GM Place has the best sound i've ever heard in an indoor venue!

Great atmosphere all through the night.... After Bryan said "Hellooo Vancouver, good to be home" he introduced this next song as "we haven't done this live yet, and i'd like to invite the beautiful Sarah McLachlan on stage with me"... Wauw, it sounded sooo beautiful; "Don't Let Go" from the "Spirit - Stallion of The Cimarron" Soundtrack!

"(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" followed, with an extended instrumental follow-up (like on the "Waking Up The Neighbours" album) - with guitar solos and all,- great to hear the old-full band (almost) live-version of that song!

The Barenaked Ladies joined BA for "Cuts Like A Knife" - just wonderful!

"When You're Gone" was hilarious with Jann Arden dressed like a BA-fan, crazy as we are, she was jumping up and down, screaming and singing - great performance:-)

Highlight: Chantal Kreviazuk and Bryan Adams on "Heaven"... ohhhhhhhh, it just sent shivers down my spine hearing Adams and the breathtaking Chantal and her beautiful voice and piano on this euphoric song! That song, was just THE BEST EVER, and I - as I write this down - are having goosebums all over, just thinkin' about that song, those two artists -that special night... Unique!

"The Only Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You" was great as always, and "Run To You" finished off the set, but as a special encore he invited all the artists back on stage for a all-star line-up version of "With A Little Help From My Friends"!!

Words cannot describe that night, that concert, that event!
