21/11/02 - SAARLANDHALLE, SAARBRUCKEN

Review by Maria Heutz:
Early in the morning I started to my next BA experience. I had to drive almost 300 kilometres but with a Bryan cassette in the player this wasn’t a problem. So I met Silke at 12. We had a nice dinner in a restaurant and drove to the concert place, called Saarlandhalle. There we met some people we also met in Oberhausen. There have been waiting just some people. Maybe 6 or 7 when we arrived at 3 p. a. Ulrike and her friends had just developed their photos, which were really good. They did the whole tour also the concerts in the Switzerland. So we had a lot to talk about. The security guys were very friendly and nice people. We could come in really early and I managed it to the front. First row!!!!! Just straight in front of Bryan’s mic. Great!!!!
First came VEGA 4 on stage and once again they found new fans. I’m sure they did. They are simply wonderful.

An hour later Bryan came on stage and again he started with Here I am. I had such a wonderful view on him. Nobody was between us. I loved every second!!! I enjoyed every moment. I could look into his eyes and he in mine. Simply wonderful. I can’t describe my feelings. It all was too impressive. We had a good time really.
The concert was perfect, no problems with the technology nor the lyrics. Just once Bryan changed two words in a song that Silke and I looked at each other and smiled. He played a great concert in CD quality. The songs were almost the same he did in Oberhausen. Everything I do I do it for you he announced as a song which he has written in just an hour. Because a whisper and a astonishment went through the crowd he joked the song took maybe ½ an hour to write it. To I’m ready he mentioned that he was only 18 when he wrote that song. He remembered this song the next day too but then he forgot it. The lyrics are rather nonsense in German but in English even more nonsense.
In addition to the set list from Oberhausen he performed STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART and with a negative comment to George W. Bush’s war plans against the Iraq he played DON’T DROP THAT BOMB ON ME. He mentioned that at the moment nobody exactly knows what’s going on with the world. I was surprised to hear him saying political things during a concert. Also he said he had played this song a short time ago at a charity concert. Like him in Oberhausen it now was me who wasn’t able to sing along to this song the whole time. I hadn’t listen to Don’t drop that bomb on me for so long so I missed the words. I only was able to sing the chorus. Heaven was the same rocky song than in Oberhausen and Summer of ‘69 the acoustic one.
Bryan remembered that he had played in the Saarlandhalle before but he couldn’t remember when it exactly had been. Silke knows this very well. That concert has been her first BA gig. So she screamed out it was 11 years ago but no reaction from Bryan.
He sang When you’re gone with a young blond girl from Trier. She is an actress in the theatre there and told him about Trier’s history. Trier is the oldest German town but Bryan didn’t know.
On the b-stage they performed the Elvis song, Seven nights to rock, Poison ivy and She’s only happy when she’s dancing. This time the b-stage wasn’t that far away so I could spot him out there between all the dancing people around him.
Back at the main stage he played Cloud # 9 and Run to you. And as I hoped for we got The best of him. He came to the front. Silke hold his hand for such a long while that I felt jealous. He climbed on the stairs and because so many people tried to touch him anywhere he needed her hand to not fall down. Silke held him like a mother holds her child. Then he came over to me. First I wasn’t sure if I should touch him or not. I hesitated but than I thought if he wouldn’t like this he would not have to come that close. So I put my hands on his shirt which felt wonderful. The shirt wasn’t wet, sticky or sweaty even if he had used his towel very often before. The cloth was a noble soft quality. So I let my hands go up and down on his right and left side. There is no fat on his ribs. After this I touched his hand for a short moment. And I felt in HEAVEN!!!!
Soon he was back on stage again. He wished us a good time for the rest of the year, and said: „Take care of yourself!“, thanked us again and performed THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL. I got goose-pimples all over. Such a great emotional song for the end of a concert. You always feel that Bryan loves his fans so much and try to give them something back they give to him at concerts. So there is no better way to do this with the lyrics of this song and when he sings it with that feeling in his voice you melt away. Simply stirring, moving, touching....!!!
We met Ulrike and her friends again (they preferred a place next to Keith) and decides to wait for some autographs. We saw Keith and the other guys leaving but not Bryan. They told us he had left before and we could imagine this because one car drove away only with the driver and a bag in it. So maybe Bryan knew a secret door to leave. So we went back to our cars said goodbye to Ulrike and her friends and drove to Silke’s home.
First I couldn’t sleep but then it took me away for some hours. Just after the breakfast I started my way back home. Of course I put a Bryan cassette into the recorder and a bit more than 2 hours later I was at home again.
For me and Silke this was one of our best BA concerts and we are still overjoyed and full of anticipation for the upcoming concerts in March next year.
