Bryan Adams at Sri Lanka peace concert amid political turmoil
Canadian pop icon Bryan Adams will go ahead with his concert despite political upheaval in this Indian Ocean island republic.
Adams who arrived here late Monday from India will sing at a football stadium turned into an open-air concert venue to an audience of about 15,000 people, a spokesman for the organisers said.
"Adams has been to some tourist sites in Colombo today, but his visits are kept a closely guarded secret because of security considerations," a spokesman said. "All arrangements are in place for the concert."
No cameras and audio recorders are allowed into the concert venue and all fans will be searched before being allowed in.
Police are deploying 400 officers in addition to dozens of private security officers for the 90-minute concert aimed at supporting Sri Lanka's peace efforts.
The concert was going ahead despite the dissolution of Sri Lanka's parliament by President Chandrika Kumaratunga at the weekend and the calling of snap elections for April 2.
Adams has travelled here with eight tonnes of equipment and his own band, organisers said.
Known for songs such as "Everything I do, I do it for you", Adams will be accompanied by a 22-member entourage and will leave for Dubai Wednesday to continue his world tour.
