10/07/05 - FRONTIER FIELD,
ROCHESTER, NY Review by Paul: Was surprised to
hear Somebody so early in the show... threw me off for a second. Hearing SO 69
as a full out rocker (save for the moments after the "solo") was a treat
too. Spent some time telling us a story about how a radio interviewer asked him
this week about that song, and he said "dude its NOT about 1969! Come on...you
know...'Me and my baby IN A 69'" which got the crowd roaring. The
WYG singer (I forget her name now) was a girl from Buffalo, and I will have to
admit she was good...knew all the words.. sang...danced.... and even Bryan said
he was impressed. Other favourite moments included
simple nuances like the segue from This Time into Cuts Like A Knife. As soon as
the final guitar crash from TT ended, the band went into the familiar background
tune for CLAK for a few seconds before BA announced CLAK and they broke into the
beginning of the song from there. Likewise the transition from TSOP to Heaven
was nice. Keith's pyrotechnics during Its Only Love were both impressive and funny
at the same time. You would have thought he was having an orgasm with the faces
he made as he "made love" to the guitar. If we only had a job we liked
as much as he does...... Solo songs SFTH and All For
Love came off nicely, and then BA looked over to see if he had more time, and
upon finding out he did, asked us if we wanted one more with the band (DUH!) so
they came out for the surprise Best Of Me. And, yes, he came down to see us for
that one..... The only disappointment was that he
only did the one song from RS. I wouldnt have minded hearing Open Road last night.
The crowd was MUCH better behaved during BA's set, and even the Def Leppard fans
got into it. I feared early on that it was gona be an all Def Leppard crowd, based
on the shirts as well as the reaction DL got, but in the end, I think the reaction
for BA was even better. ********** Review
by Suzanne Cappelli: Anyway, as for the show... another excellent one. This
was my third of this tour so far (San Jose, Dallas) and it was amazing as usual.
He played for almost an hour and a half with virtually no break. The band was
great... they all seemed really into the crowd, especially Bryan. He mentioned
that when they were a young band just starting out, Rochester was one of the first
cities to play their music so he was psyched to come back to return the favor. We
were able to get right down in front early (first row) which ended up being a
good thing b/c the Def Leppard fans didn't scatter after the Band left the stage
as usual. More BA fans made their way down in front of the stage but I was surprised
at how many Def Leppard fans stayed down in front too. The light show was pretty
good (except for taking pics). Bryan was all over the stage as usual. The set
list was in line with the last few shows... started off with One Night Love Affair
again... This Side of Paradise was the only song they played from Room Service.
Keith's solo during It's Only Love was brilliant... no surprise. For the last
song, Bryan jumped down off the stage and climbed the three step stool on his
side of the gate and sung in the crowd. He was high fives all around and singing
at the same time. It was truly incredible. Earlier in the night, he told the crowd
that music is so special to him (obviously) and to all of us and he wanted to
thank us for "allowing me to keep on doing what I do" after all this
time. I just kept thinking... no seriously, thank you! Setlist: One
Night Love Affair Somebody 18 Til I Die Cant Stop This Thing We Started Kids
