22/11/05 - PROMO: 'PAUL O'GRADY SHOW', LONDON

During the week 'Anthology' is released in the UK Bryan appears on the 'Paul O'Grady Show'... the other guest with Bryan was Amanda Holden. It was a great interview.... highlight of it was when Paul said.... "do you have a cook in your dressing room?".... but Bryan and the entire audience thought he said 'f**k' instead of 'cook'.... Bryan just said "i beg your pardon!"... hilarious.

It was also funny when they showed the live in lisbon dvd and Paul did an impression of BA totally rocking out jumping about.... and Bryan said "is that what i do"..... (no Bryan not always but it's what you should do more often lololol). As you would expect from Paul O'Grady, nothing was off-topic and they discussed everything from Bryan's latest CD to Fairies in the Forest... literally!

Interview transcript by Steven Stanley:

POG = Paul O'Grady | AH = Amanda Holden (pregnant) | BA = Bryan Adams

POG - He's sold millions of albums worldwide. His countless singles include the record breaking 'Everything I Do'... Do you remember that?

AH - Yeah! I used to sing that.

POG - I did n'all!

AH - Loved it!

POG - ...which spent 4 months at number 1, not bad is it! 'Anthol', this is his new album, 'Antholo'... I dunno what I'm sayin' ere now!

POG (At audience) - This is you clappin' you've thrown me off my measure!

POG - Anthology packed with all his greatest hits... I'm gonna introduce him now before I get into trouble! Would you please welcome the only and only Mr Bryan Adams!

*BA walks out*

POG - I'm readin' your CV there Bryan... battlin' on and of course I get distracted half way through! ...4 months at the top! That's brilliant that!

BA - That was, quite a while ago!

POG - Doesn't matter though 4 months at number 1!

BA - Yeah I dunno what I actually had to do with it but I think it's what the British public had to do with it so thankyou for that.

*Crowd cheers*

POG - Now I love your quotes about surviving in showbiz cos none of it's ever worked for me!
1 - Don't smoke
2 - Keep your pants on
3 - Keep your chin up

BA - I think it was keep your chin up, then keep your pants on!

POG - Oh really? Well I've failed on all 3! (BA laughs!)

POG - ...and you've been at it 25 years?

BA - Yeah well I've been at it longer, but actually 25 year making music and recording is a long time. I don't actually even know if I wanna talk about it cos it's embarrasing ya know...

POG - You don't look it tho...

BA - Well 25 years just sounds like 'oh well next...!' Ya know!

POG - 27 I've been goin...

AH - *gasps* God I wasn't even born!

POG - Shut up!

POG - I know she plays wicked women in real life but I didn't know she was like that!...

POG - How did you start out? How did you get goin?

BA - I started out just playin in clubs and just trying to carve a little bit of a scene out for myself in a band and... we couldn't find a singer in our band so I kinda elected to be the singer and thats how it all started.

POG - Did you know you could sing?

BA - Not really no, but I was always the one in the band that would go up to the mike when we were like 'well someones gotta go up and sing'.... so I would go up there and sing it, and thats how it started.

POG - It's a brilliant album this (picks up 'Anthology'), whats your favourite track on it?

BA - Well the thing is it was really hard to try and put that record together because it's not so much a greatest hits collection... it's more a collection of songs, a lot of people do know some of the songs on it, but there are some songs unknown because prior to my bigger hits... like when I first started out it was 'Run To You' here in the UK was in '84/'85, prior to that I had 3 albums out so there's some music from those previous albums. So it's like a collection of music that spans 25 years.

POG - Do you if something like 'Everything I Do' is a massive hit like that? Do you ever think 'how am I gonna follow this'?

BA - Well I never thought about it. To me it was just a pretty song... I'd written lots of pretty songs... I never really thought 'how am I gonna follow up' because you can't really. You just gotta keep going and do what you do.

POG - See I'd panic!

BA - Thats it yeah... just go in your room and don't call anyone for a while!

POG - I do that anyway Bryan with my little electric fire freezin! Anyway we've got a clip of you... in concert... let's ave a look please!

***RUN TO YOU - LIVE IN LISBON***

*Crowd cheers*

POG - While we were showing that clip of Bryan, Amanda's babies just kicked!

AH - Yeah! She's obviously a Bryan fan!

POG - So I think you babies got taste Amanda... I think you should have this!

AH - I'll have the album!

*POG walks over and hands Amanda the 'Anthology'*

POG - I think you should take this and play it when you get home. She'll come out now (meaning AH's baby!) goin (does crazy impression of Bryan playing guitar plus the sounds!!!)

*Crowd laughs!*

BA - Is that what I do!

POG - That's what I assume everybody does onstage! We used to dance like that...

AH - Yeah with a tennis racket!

POG - We used to have one of those and pretend we had a guitar. People would go 'whats he doin!'...

*BA Laughs*

POG - I was 44 at the time but there ya go!

*BA Laughs even harder!*

POG - Is it easy to learn the guitar because it's something I've been meaning to do?

BA - It's not easy no. I mean I'm still learning and I've been at it for 30 something years...

POG - Were you self tought?

BA - Yeah I was absolutely self tought... and thats why I'm not very good...

*Crowd laughs*

BA - but the 3 chords that I do know I know them really well so...

POG - How did the tour go?

BA - It's ongoing

POG - Your still at it? How long have you been touring?

BA - I never stop

AH - Oooooo!

BA - No it's true. I go out for 10 days a month somewhere. Whats nice about some of these songs is they've transended a lot of boundaries and languages so people know them all over the world. So we can pretty much throw a dart at a map and say 'let's go and play there'

POG - Oh well fabulous

BA - Yeah it's really nice. Next month we are going to Canada, we're gonna be playing in February and then South Africa. It's basically 10 days a month... we'll do a South Africa tour then an Indian tour, then a Canadian tour... go to the states... ya know it's great.

POG - Oh fabulous. You see touring for me is Sheffield, Wigan, Birmingham...

*Crowd and AH laughs*

POG - ...and Wolverhampton, know what I mean?

AH - Plymouth!

BA - *Nods* Well we've done those as well. I've done that run!

POG - Well best of luck with the tour... when does it stop is it endless?

BA - It doesn't stop. You can always checkout my website, there's always somewhere you can go. If ya wanna fly to Wigan I'll probably be there sometime.

POG - So do you like living in hotels and all that?

BA - Not all the time now I prefer living at home.

POG - Have you got the big winibaygo?

BA - No I don't no

POG - Oh you've gotta get one Bryan

BA - Have you got one?

POG - What have you seen what I'm in? I haven't even got hot water nevermind a winibaygo! Tammy Wynette I remember her she had a big 4 poster bed...

BA - Yeah because in America you can just tour around America and you don't go anywhere... you can just go from Nashville to Memphis to wherever and you can have a big bus like that. But if you go overseas you can't take the winibaygo!

POG - Do you have a cook (sounds like 'fuck'!)

BA - I beg your pardon!

AH - I know!

*Crowd laughs*

POG - No!!! It's my accent Bryan I'm sorry! I've just realised what you thought I said!

BA - I tell ya what it's not in my dressing room!!!

POG - No! Cook in your dressing room! Do you ever make something to eat in your dressing room?

BA - Yes. Yeah!

POG - I tell you what because I've got a stove I've had for years I sed to tour with...

AH - Baby Belling?

POG - Yep! You can make a roast dinner on it! You can have it because I've retired from touring now.

BA - Yeah well next I come perhaps you should show me some tips on that...

POG - Oh it's easy... ya got 3 little pans and a kettle... it stinks the theatre out and they all moan! But your the star and you can do what you like!

BA - Exactly!

POG - Ladies and gentlemen... Bryan Adams!

***Later on during the show Bryan appeared many times also taking part in a brief discussion about ghosts!***
