01/02/06 - AL SADD STADIUM, DOHA

Review by The Peninsula:
Adams' fans have a night to remember

The much-awaited concert by rock star Bryan Adams finally happened yesterday and crowds were given a night to remember when the singer rendered out evergreen hits from his early compositions to his latest.

The concert was organised as part of the charity drive Reach Out to Asia headed by the Emir’s daughter H E Sheikha Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa.

Adams and his band stormed onto the staged singing his 2004 hit Room Service catching the packed stadium totally offguard. The Al Sadd stadium burst out into applause for the Canadian star who has been in the industry for almost three decades.

Soon after his first song, Adams called a budding Iraqi star to join him on stage. He was 12-year-old Bilal who accompanied Adams in a song.

Adams then sent the audience wild with numbers like 18 Till I die, Let’s Make a Night To Remember, Everyhting I Do, Summer of ‘69, Can’t Stop This Thing We Started, among other hits.

For the popular hit When Your Gone, Adams picked out two girls from the crowd to sing along with him.

Finally, after about over 90 minutes on stage, he and his band took a bow and left the stage.

But the crowds screamed the lungs out only to bring Adams and his troupe back to perform two more hit songs Please Forgive Me , which was decicated to Sheikha Mayassa, and All For Love.

Review by Faisal Sheikh:
It was held on the 1st of Feb and I was lucky enough to see Bryan live for the 3rd time. I'm hoping to see him live once more in March. Pray for me.
The concert kicked off with the usual opening rocker Room Service, followed by Somebody and This Time.
Bryan then introduced a young Iraqi kid. The kid sat down next to Bryan, with an arabic stringed instrument called the 'oud'. Bryan sang back to you with an acoustic as this little kid tried to improvise as good as he could. After that bryan played some of the usual songs like Open Road, 18 til i de, Summer of 69, Heaven, Cuts like a Knife etc..
For When you're gone Bryan picked out a young girl who was very enthusiastic but unfortunatly had no clue about the song. Bryan asked the badn to stop, gave her a tamborine, asked another girl up....and this girl really did know the song and sang it real good. It seemed like she wasn't an ametuer.
Then Bryan spoke about a song which he had forgotten about until recently when the Anthology album was out together. That song happened to be Hearts on Fire. Adams really made me wish he would rerecord it after hearing him sing with his now much improved voice, and improved guitars.
Keith Scott was really on fire in It's only love. Along with his usual catchy riffs, he played hoola hoops with the guitar, and at the end of his solo played a note, threw the guitar high in the air (the note was still sounding),
caught it and continued soloing.

The band was then introduced and they left, coming back minutes later to play their usual bundle of songs which are Cloud no 9, Run To You, The best of me.
The acoustic session, whic was also the final session were great solo BA performances of Please Forgive Me and All For Love.

The concert was really great, as all BA concerts are.
