14/07/06 - TEAK MARIENBURG
FESTIVAL, WURZBURG Review
by Felix Arnold: A night to remember So finally,
after one year without visiting a Bryan Adams concert I got the chance to go to
the gig in Würzburg. I arrived at 12.30 in Würzburg and after checking
in the hotel I started my walk to the fortress. This fortress, called "Marienberg",
was/is indeed a very beautiful place and Bryan said at the end of the show:"
This is the most beautiful place in Germany I've ever played at." Hell ya,
the guy was definetely right!
It
was 2 pm as I saw the entrance of the fortress and after greeting the other BAdfans
who also had already arrived I sat down on the very uncomfortable floor. It took
another 2 hours until the gates were opened (fortunately it was bright sunshine
without any cloud) and another 2 3/4 hours til the special guest "Roy7"
hit the stage. I was surprised by the band since they played very well and were
very enthusiastic for this was they're last gig together with Bryan. They were
a lot better than Beverley Knight, because In my opinion her music doesn't fit
in a BA concert and she screwed up "It's only love" the last time I
saw her. Well, after talking about this special guest, I should mention that I
had a place in the front row (almost) centre. I was often close to Bryan and co.
but I was never SO close, so I was really excited to see him, look in his eyes
and so (this sounds strange, I Know!!) Alright, after another 30 min. everyone
started screaming and yelling and time had come: Bryan hit the stage with "So
far so good" which wasn't as good as "Room service" or "Here
I am" but it was okay. Than he went on with "Somebody" and "Open
Road" (the only song from the Room service album, which wasn't a bad thing).
Of course "18 til I die" followed with a good response by the crowd,
as far as the first few rowes were concerned.
After "Lets make a night to remember" he started "Can't stop this
thing we started" which was very funny because he started the song with a
Fender guitar and changed after the first 10 seconds to a Gretsch wich sounded
a whole lot better. Bryan and Keith were so close to me, it was really cool and
I made a lot of photos and vids ;).
My
personal highlights came up soon after: "Summer of '69" and "Hearts
on fire". I love especially "Hearts on fire" and hearing it live
was a great pleasure. I forgot to mention the WYGG but only because she wasn't
really good....the small talk before the song was funny as well but she laughed
more than she sung. And Bryan said only: Good attempt. A surprise in the setlist
came up near to the end of the main-show: C'mon everybody! Really amazing, I only
had seen it on the So far so good DVD and it was fun like hell. The dance of the
K-man during "She's only happy..." was hilarious and Mickey pissed himself
laughing.
The
encore was opened like always with "Cloud no.9" and the atmosphere was
very nice during the song. The usual suspect "Run to you" was also played.
Another very cool moment of the show was as Bryan was standing alone with his
acoustic guitar after "Straight from heart" and started to play "Kids
wanna rock" acoustic.....I just thought: Oh god, don't let this happen....it
was a great show with So '69 full rock etc.!" And my prayers were heard:
Bryan started to say. Where's my band? I need my band?" (He sung that in
a kind of blues style) And one by one they came back on stage and played the song
full rock, absolutely stunning! And....in the end: Please forgive me. One of my
favourite ballads in a beautiful way performed. So...all in all I must say that
this was the best BA show I've ever been at because of my very good view, the
great performance, and ,finally, because Mickey throw one of his drumsticks in
my hands. And the venue: Like Bryan said: the most beautiful venue in Germany.
