03/06/07 - COLORLINE ARENA, HAMBURG

Review by Helen Barton:
Bryan and the dudes blasted onto the B-stage at 9pm, and even though Sheffield was only three weeks ago it was just as exciting as if we hadn’t seen them for a year! The set list was exactly the same as in the UK (I think), with ‘Never be another tonight’ as the opener (too awesome), then ‘Can’t stop’ and ‘Please forgive me’, between which Bryan said how great it was to be back in Germany. I agree…I love German gigs!!

He yelled ‘you got it!’ and we waited for the big crush…although it seemed to take ages for him to come by (it was quite a big arena). I always seem to say the same thing in my reviews but the look of appreciation and recognition on Bryan’s face when he sees familiar faces always makes it even more worth it…he grabbed my hand, got onto my step and kind of tucked me under his arm! I think Adina wins the prize for the luckiest girl tonight though…he grabbed her and was pushing her backwards singing right into her face…was desperately trying to get a photo for her but everyone’s hands were in the way! Then he came to me again, gave me a firm hand slap and a grin before getting up on stage, bending over and slapping his ass! :)

So the show carried on, straight into ‘Somebody’, ‘Kids Wanna Rock’, ‘Open Road’ and ‘This Time’. I heard a rumour that the crowd were supposed to be quite reserved in Hamburg but they seemed quite into it to me…most people joined in for the ‘Back to you’ bounce, and Bryan and Keith seemed on top form – lots of banter going on between them. At one point Bryan started pulling Keith’s nipples and Chels (who is always ready with a witty comment) said “that gets 12 out of 10 on the gay-o-meter!”. Then Chelsey’s ‘loon within’ showed it’s face again when Bryan pointed to her during ‘Let’s make a night…’ and sang “…with your hair hanging down on your shoulders” to her…she kind of melted over the barrier and went, “awwww!!”. Bless!!

So then Bryan stopped to chat, and, just as he did in the UK, said that the tour was supposed to be to promote the album, which he hasn’t finished….but he promises he will finish it soon (we were kind of looking at him out of the corner of our eyes as if to say… “really?”). Of course “I think about you” was coming next, and he sang “I think about you, I can’t get enough, I’ll finish the album, when I’ve finished the other stuff!”. Then, in the second chorus…. “I think about you, I can’t get no rest, I think about you, and your lovely…” -but he didn’t actually say it; he just made a cheeky squeezing gesture with his hands. That raised a few giggles :)

He was also being his usual cheeky self during “…loved a woman”, raising his eyebrows in our general direction and mouthing things like “you’re loved”, “you’re wanted” with a very cheeky little grin…thank goodness I have stopped acting like a big girl now and did *not* grin back!! (ok so nobody believes me). Although I have to say, it is really great fun having that kind of interaction and makes every minute of queuing for front row worth it…at one point we were actually trying to *avoid* eye contact with the guys so that we wouldn’t crack up laughing!

Between one of the songs…my dizzy head can’t remember which…Bryan was mouthing something to me and Chels, and making some kind of strange gesture with his hands. I couldn’t make out what he was trying to say, so just shrugged and mouthed back, “what?? - I don’t understand ya!”…so he gave up and walked off….and Chels said she thought he was saying he needed a cup of tea! (the wild-living rock star that he is!). Damn – if I’d have known I would’ve brought some bourbons too.

The WYGG, Steffi, was from Hamburg, but she told everyone that even though she’s German, she now lives in America. “you don’t have to tell everyone that!” Bryan said… “they all love you because you’re German!”. She seemed to enjoy herself on stage and did a good job.

Keith’s solo was fantastic as always…because of our barrier spot he was smack-bang in front of us doing it and that’s always amazing to watch; actually his fingers move so fast that they are blurred! I think I’ve said this in reviews before, but it’s also amazing to watch Bryan watching Keith. It really is with a look of complete awe; you can just tell that Keith is Bryan’s hero. And rightly so; the man is a legend! While he was chucking the guitar around his head though, he managed to smack himself in the face with it! For a second he had a look of ‘ouch’ on his face, but then grinned and carried on so he was obviously fine :)

After ‘The only thing…’ and the final bow, the usual encores of ‘Run to you’ and ‘Cloud 9’ followed, with an impressive display of hands in the air! The Hamburg audience were actually pretty un-reserved I thought! Then the guys hit the b-stage for “There’s gonna be some rockin’”, “7 nights to rock” (where Bryan sang “eins…zwei…drei…vier…funf…sechs…sieben!”) and of course “She’s only happy” where more lucky girls got on the stage for some quality butt-shaking. And just as we did in the UK, me, Chels, Katie, Adina and Petra left the barrier and had a good ole dance as well :)

Bryan left the stage yelling "next time you see me, I'll have finished my f***ing album!". We can always trust our Bryan not to mince his words...;)
