Article by Luke Blackall with Jessica Barrett (The
London Paper):
'That's one Elt of a fee for karaoke'
Elton Johns no stranger to earning huge fees
for singing, but the star has surpassed even himself, commanding
a staggering £110,000 to sing one karaoke song last night.
Elton crooned Elvis classic Are you Lonesome Tonight?
for an auction at Ronnie Scotts for the Palestinian childrens
charity Hoping Foundation, which raised over £385,000.
Russell Brand hosted the celeb-packed event, putting
on a hilarious double act with auctioneer Harry Dalmeny, teasing
a number of the stars in the audience in the process.
Next most popular was Australian singer-songwriter
Nick Cave, who raised £70,000 to perform an amazing version
of Destinys Child song Bootylicious duet with the winning
bidder, complete with Beyoncé-like pouting and booty
shaking. Wealthy guests, knocking back William Grant spirits and
Rothschild champagne, even went wild for toothless Irishman Shane
McGowan, who raised a hefty £35,000 as he belted out We Didnt
Start the Fire.
But despite joining a distinctly A-list crowd
McGowan showed he still hasnt lost his naughty streak as he
swiped a traffic cone as he staggered along the street on his way
home.

Nobody escaped the karaoke fever, Jeff Beck grabbed
Bryan Adams and Chrissie Hynde for a performance of Wild Thing.
Meanwhile, Trinny Woodall and supermodel Laura Bailey teamed up
for a bit of Robbie Williams, belting out Angels. to the A-list
crowd.
