21/07/07 - MURRAYFIELD STADIUM, EDINBURGH

Review by Chelsey Evans:
"If you're getting wet, then I'll get wet too"

After hearing all the stories from Doncaster and having checked the weather forecast, we were all prepared for a wet day: and that's exactly what we got. The rain started around 1pm and carried on steadily throughout the day. When 4pm came round and it was time for the doors to open we were told there were technical difficulties and they doors would open as soon as possible. Anyway, an hour later and after an absolutely shambolic entry thanks to security and a faulty door, we made it to the barrier and prepared ourselves for the support act.

The first band weren't bad, but as thye were onstage I noticed my beloved Beaver tied up on Keith's amp and screamed 'BEAVER!' and everyone started cheering. The support act had no idea what was going on but seemed to find it quite funny.

The second support act were on for an hour and they were weird goth rock mixed with flutes and recorders. Very strange and they were on for far too long.

Anyway, we noticed that the guitar tech's had poncho's on and that there were some guitars missing from the mainstage, and at 8.30, Bryan and the dudes appeared on the big screen on their long walk to the b-stage. Was strange to see them with their jackets on but they seemed to be in a good mood and launched straight into 'There Will Never Be Another Tonight' which was absolutely rocking and everyone started to forget about the rain as we bounced around to a great version of 'Can't Stop This Thing We Started' and the band made their soggy way back to the main stage.

'Please Forgive Me' (complete with the actions from us) sounded nice in the stadium but most people didn't seem to be singing along as they were too busy trying to stay dry! We had a laugh when we realised Gary still has his moose with him and he gave us a wave before Bryan screamed "You got it!" and the band launched into "Best of Me". My little sister was about having a heart attack at this point because it's her favourite song and we didn't think it would be in the set because of the rain. We got high fives as Bryan ran along the barrier and up the ladder onto the stage to join the guys.

'Somebody' was fantastic as usual, and Mickey was on form tonight (but when isn't he?). The band were having a good laugh with everyone on the front row... must have had something to do with the fact that we had forgotten about the wetness and just acted like idiots dancing in our ponchos etc etc. When Bryan stood at the front of the stage messing about with his guitar, I knew we were gonna get 'Kids Wanna Rock' after it being dropped in Doncaster the night before. I was slightly disappointed with the guitar battle in the middle of the song as it didn't go on for as long as it usually does but the boys were still very entertaining.

The normal setlist followed and the audience seemed a bit reserved until we got a serious 'Back To You' bounce going. By this point Lizy and I were down to our vest tops and had to jump around to keep warm so we got the whole standing section bouncing like nutters. 'Summer of '69' was better than usual, I don't know why, but I seemed to enjoy it more than I usually do (which is something).

During 'Everything I Do' I was serenading my soggy shoes and trying to explain to Keith that "everything I do, I do it for shoes" which I don't think he really understood but it was something to amuse ourselves with. Bryan wasn't his usual chatty self between songs, which may have had something to do with the fact that he seemed to be having trouble hitting certain notes and was coughing between a few songs. The WYGG was Helga from South Africa so she got booed but she turned out to be quite funny in the end.

'It's Only Love' is still being done with just Bryan and Keith at the start but the song was redeemed by an amazing solo from Keith which included some funky dance moves and playing the guitar behind his head. 'Heaven' and 'The Only Thing' followed and the band took their bows with Gary kissing his moose and everyone cheering for more.

When they returned for 'Cloud 9' and 'Run To You' it was raining quite hard but we knew it was the last we were going to see them up close and we made the most of it by enthusiastically waving our arms during cloud 9 and having a good old bounce during 'Run To You'. Keith seemed to take great pleasure in jumping in the puddles which had formed at the far sides of the stage and no-one fell over so the mainstage set was a success as far as health and safety went.

As Bryan asked everyone to show their appreciation for the band, I was mouthing to Keith about my beaver and before he ran off to the b-stage he grabbed it from his amp and threw it right at us (the guy has amazing aim!) so obviously I was very happy!

We left the barrier to go dance during the b-stage set. You could see Norm wasn't enjoying himself - he had on a waterproof jacket and his hood was tight around his face but they played the full b-stage set even though it was absolutely peeing it down. During 'She's Only Happy' it seemed to take forever for the dancers to get onstage and they didn't seem to understand the concept of a dance competition, but we had our own dance-off in the middle of the floor.

Before 'Straight From The Heart' he told us that if we were gonna be getting wet, he would too and played the harmonica intro. We moved over too the walkway which would take him from the b-stage out of the arena whilst Bryan successfully remembered all the words to 'All For Love' for the first time in a while! He thanked us for coming and made his way past us to leave. We all got high fives and a big grin as we said cheers for the gigs and also goodbye. What a nice way to end the tour!
