15/04/08 - TEATRO DE VERANO, MONTEVIDEO

Review by Marisa:
I arrived in Montevideo on Friday 11th.. Nice flight, Clear weather en Porto Alegre when I took off but cloudy and overcasted in Montevideo when I landed..
Awesome family time which was one of the reasons I chose Montevideo instead of Buenos Aires to attend the gig.
It's always wonderful to catch up with family and old friends I have nott seen for a while

The gig was on Tuesday and I started warming up for it. My friends from Porto Alegre arrived on Monday and we went to the Punta Carretas Shopping to buy our "11"cds and of course, some more shopping.. ( A girls afternon, ya know? )
Me and my niece spent almost all Monday's evening drawing the banners I was taking to the gig..
I am adding the pictures of those banners and they turned really cool! I was just hoping the guys would see them from stage.

Tuesday finally arrived and I was so excited to finally be there in front of the stage again that I could not believe my eyes.. I arrived at the venue at around 8.15 pm so 45 minutes before the gig was schedule.. I met some uruguayan and brazilian friends and we were in a really good mood. Singing, bouncing and taking pictures with our banners outside the venue.

Teatro de Verano in Montevideo is an outdoors Theater for about 5.000 peeps. The night was clear and COLD!! I think it was probably 8 C but the termic sensation was lower because of the wind. and also because the place is in front of the beach. Its a lovely place for a hot summer night but it was fall and not the perfect place for a gig . I was fearing we would freeze because it were about 34 C in Porto Alegre when I left here on Friday 11th..

When we came in to take our seats the support band was already performing.. It was called Monalisa and it was an uruguyan band.. They were really great and helpped the crowd to warm up before the gig.

Well.. then the lights went off for a second and turned on again for the guys to come on stage . it was exatcly 9.15 pm and the crowd went wild.. As I sadi it was a cold night so Bryan and Keith were on his jeans and jean jackets which make it even more surprising. I had seen them wearing those clothes only in Europe gigs and I was nicely surprised with that outfit.. BTW the guys looked really handsome..

The first song : There will never be another tonight, put everyone to bounce and sing and Bryan and boys were really enjoying themselves.

I must say it was a perfect setlist.. Ok. I missed a couple of songs.. Especially "It's only love" because I was expecting the Kman to play that amazing solo right in front of me.. but sometimes you cannot have everything .
I also missed "Walk on by " from "11"cd because I was truly expecting to see Bryan performing it on his encore but there weill be another time..

Can't stop this thing followed and by that time the peeps who were on the upper seats had reached the fromt row so by then I was about in the 10th row.. I was inicially on Row 3 but I did not want to risk myself in that crowd so I settled in my own seat which gave me a very nice view..
I was on the right side of the stage ( on Bryan's vision ) I missed being closer from Keith though I feared he would not see me from the stage.

The acoustic of the Theather was awesome..Bryan took his acoustic guitar and played :Please forgive me.. His voice sounded even more fantastic than in the last time I saw him performing live in Porto Alegre on March 3, 2007.. He just keeps on getting better every year.

Everyone sang with Somebody and when ITISE started the crowed started cheering.. The new single was finally being perfomed live.. It has been in the uruguyan top 10 since it was launched and the crowd knew the words really well. It was in #4 the Sunday before the gig.

Bryan was amazed and r really happy. He smiled and winked to Keith and he was really enjoying his time on stage.
I do not remember exactly when it was that he started interacting with the crowd.. He said he was very happy to come back to Montevideo. He also mentioned that when he was there the year before it was warm and that night it was so cold... but the crowd was hot.. lol

He said he had answered many intevrviews during the day and they asked him why he had come back to Uruguay .. then the crowd went totally wild cheering his name.. Then he put his hands on his waist.. That classical one you have seen so many times.. and said.. You see.. That's why I got back.. and I will be back many times.. When do you want me to come back?? In december, in January??? Of course the crowd yelled yes for each sentence..
He also said they asked him to go to Punta del Este ( Which is a really famous uruguayan beach ).
"You are the jewel of South America" Well the place was small for the ovation he got from that..
I think Let's make a night to remember followed and everyone sang along with Bryan.

Summer of 69 followed and the lights on the back of the stage started blinking which gave the song a special effect and of course, again everybody sang along with them.

I had the setlist in hands.. The one for the other South America gigs and it was exactly the same one as Lima and other cities..

So I was checking it out to see what would follow..
Then Bryan introduced.. Master Keith Scott which made the crowd euphoric.. and we knew "have you ever really loved a woman"with Keith performing the spanish guitar.. He was absolutely fantastic.. and got an ovation after the song.

I do not remember when it was that Keith starting sweating but I guess it was right after Summer so he took his jeans jacket off and showed his shaped chest on that really sexy black bottoned shirt.. And the fans , of course started cheering his name..

Cuts like a knife and the nanana chorus echoed in the cold nightg and the guys on stage were having a blast..

When you are gone followed and Bryan ( his funny self as always ) picked a really cute uruguayan girl that went speachless in first place when he asked her what she did. Luckily she recovered her talk and did a great job .
Bryan introudeced here.. This is Florencia, She does nothing, she is from here.... etc. etc. and he was really, really funny. Hilarious I would say.

It was time for one more song from 11 and it was Oxygen. I really enjoyed it live and keith's solo was really cool. The crowd also enjoyed it and clapped along most of the song. The only thing was the last song of the main part of the gig and Bryan said.. These are my guys, my brothers and introduced the band. They were all smiles so we noticed they had really enjoyed the gig. It was right there that I showed my "Troob on fire" banner and Keith saw it.. Pointed, smiled and blew me a kiss. What a sweet thing for him to do..

I cannot recall when was it but Bryan saw the brazilian flag the girls where holding and looked straight at them and said.. "Thanks" The ovation started when the guys left the stage and they came back for # 9 and Run to you..

Then Bryan did his acoustic encore which was awesome..

Tonight we have the stars was fantastic.. By that time the night was espectacular with gorgeous moon and stars.. so Bryan stopped for a second.. Looked up and said.. Tongith we really have the stars.. And the crowd cheered and yelled his name. I started feeling down when Straight from the heart began because I knew it would be only one more song.. The hamonica and Bryan's acoustic guitar sounded awesome. Plus this song is very specail to me because it wass the first Bryan's song I heard in my life back in 1983.. So it was really special.
It finished with All for love with Bryan's voice sounding like heaven .

The feeling I got from that gig was it was way too short..You always want more when they start performing.. They are just too good to be true..

We met Keith after the gig and he was extremely nice and patient, autographing cds and taking photograhps with us..

Then we went back to our hotels and homes and starting planning the next gig..
