09/05/09 - ORIENTAL THEATER, FORD CENTER, CHICAGO, IL

Bryan arrives in the windy city and plays 20 minutes longer than the previous nights show in Madison.

Review by Helen Barton:
The Chicago gig was incredible. I might even go as far as to say it's the best BA acoustic gig I’ve ever seen, although I will always look back fondly on the four I went to exactly this time last year. But there was just something about tonight. After the first few songs Sherrisue and I moved into some empty seats on the front row (in fact there were loads of empty seats on the front row...how did that happen?), and half way through the gig, Bryan stopped and asked loads of people from the top balconies to come down to the front too. Then the party started. Everyone on their feet, and it seemed to just be request after request – we were yelling songs at Bryan, he was playing them. My request was ‘Kids Wanna Rock’ – others were ‘Its only Love’, ‘Cloud 9’, ‘Have you ever really loved...’, he just kept rolling them out. The people who’d moved down from the top balconies were having the absolute time of their lives...it was great to watch.

As it was Chicago, Bryan played the Willie Dixon song ‘I just wanna make love to you’. I cannot even begin to describe how good his voice sounded on that song. Girls in the front were fanning themselves! Everything about the gig seemed so spontaneous; everyone was singing along...just perfect. ‘Never Let Go’ was back in the set tonight too, which Bryan dedicated to the pilot who landed on the Hudson River a few weeks back, and to all the servicemen. Despite the craziness of the rest of the evening, you could hear a pin drop when he was singing ‘Never Let Go’. I have to admit to having a lump in my throat. It was one of those gigs that you walk out of on a total high.
So I think folks, I’ve sort of given you the impression that I really quite enjoyed this gig.
